Startalk DLI Secondary Summer Institute for Teachers
The DLI Secondary Summer Institute for Teachers will prepare in-service and pre-service teachers of Arabic, Russian and Spanish to deliver effective instruction in immersion programs at the secondary level and to help students progress through the Intermediate level of proficiency towards the goal of Advanced proficiency. The workshop is funded by the Startalk program and organized by the Second Language Teaching and Research Center (L2TReC) at the University of Utah.
When: July 6-14, 2021 (some pre- and post-Institute work required)
Where: Delivered online
Who: This institute is designed for teachers planning to teach Dual Language Immersion at the secondary level in Arabic, Russian or Spanish. Space is limited to 20 participants.
Registration: There is no fee to register for the Institute. Participants interested in getting University of Utah credit may enroll in a credit bearing course for a $50 fee. Information on how to do this will be distributed during the workshop.
Application Process
To complete the application, you will need to upload the following documentation.
- Curriculum Vitae/Resumé
- A one-page statement of purpose (maximum of 300 words) that indicates how this workshop is relevant to you and your institution and the subsequent impact of this workshop on your teaching and institution
As part of your application, you will also be asked to complete a teaching background questionnaire.

Selection Process
Application Deadline: June 4, 2021
Notification: Applicants will receive notification of their registration status by June 7, 2021.
Registration: Once participants have been notified of their selection, they must confirm their participation by June 14, 2021. After this date, spots will be allocated to waitlisted applicants.
