Utah High School Portuguese Fair
Save the Date!
The Portuguese Fair is designed for students in Utah high school Bridge and DLI 6 programs to showcase the language skills and cultural knowledge that they have developed through the years. Students will participate in competitive events in Portuguese, and all students will receive a certificate of participation with a rating by judges, with trophies awarded to the top-performing schools. Information will also be available for high school seniors and juniors about Portuguese programs and international programs at Utah universities (additional information online at https://l2trec.utah.edu/bridge-program/collegepathways/).
Participation: All students enrolled in Portuguese Bridge and DLI 6 classes at a Utah high school are eligible to participate. Each participating student must sign up for one and only one event (with the exception of the two alternates for the Portuguese Bowl, who should sign up for an additional event).
Students who speak Portuguese as a first language may participate in any event except the Portuguese Bowl.
Registration: Signup sheets will be sent to teachers at each high school in January. Teachers must submit their school’s registration with students’ names and events by Friday, March 28.
MANY THANKS to the University of Utah’s Department of World Languages and Cultures, Office of International and Area Studies, and Brazilian Club for providing funding and volunteers to host this event. Thanks also to the BYU Department of Spanish and Portuguese for sharing the instructions for individual events, which have been adapted from the Spanish Fair that has been successfully held at BYU since the 1950s.
