2024 Summer Bridge Institute

Welcome teachers!

The Annual Summer Bridge Program Institute kicks off the university/high school co-teaching partnership for the 24-25 school year, focusing on teaching and learning for the upcoming Bridge Program 3118 courses. Register below according to your language and year of teaching in the Bridge Program.

Dates: July 31, August 1, August 2, 2024 

Location: University of Utah main campus, Spencer Fox Eccles Business Building and Gardener Commons (see schedule below for more details)

Time: 9am-4pm

Cost: Free!

You may buy or bring your own lunch. Join us to walk over to the Student Union each day to socialize with colleagues. You can buy lunches for around $10, or bring your own lunch and eat together in the Union atrium or picnic tables. FRIDAY AUGUST 2, LUNCH WILL BE PROVIDED.

All workshops are in-person

  • Year 1 teaching Bridge: Instructors new to teaching in the Bridge Program and who have not attended the Bridge Institute, attend 3 days— July 31, Aug 1, Aug 2
  • Year 2 and 3 teaching Bridge: Instructors teaching their 2nd and 3rd years and Bridge courses attended 2 days— Aug 1, Aug 2
  • Veteran instructors past year 3: Instructors who have attended 3 years and all 3 courses attend 1 day of the Institute— Aug 2

  • Day 3- Friday, August 2 – 9am-4pm

Parking is available on Level 3 of the Central Garage during the first two days of Institute and on all levels of the Centeral Garage on day 3 of Institute. If you park in a different area, you are responsible for any ticket or fee associated.

HOUSING SUBSIDY 

On-campus dorm housing is no longer an option due to student housing needs. For instructors who live more than 50 miles from the UofU campus, L2TReC will reimburse $50 a night for up to 3 nights, according to Bridge Institute days attended. Participants may request reimbursement for the night prior to first day of attendance through the final day of attendance.

  • If attending July 31 - Aug 2, hotel reimbursement may be July 30 check in and Aug. 2 checkout.
  • If attending Aug 1 - 2, hotel reimbursement may be July 31 check in and Aug. 2 checkout.
  • If attending Aug. 2 only, hotel reimbursement may be Aug. 1 check in and Aug. 2 checkout.

Please submit the following to Catherine Scott (c.scott@utah.edu) by August 9, 2024:

  1. Hotel receipt with your name and home address (providing verification of living 50 miles from UofU campus)
  2. Completed W-9 form 
  3. Submit all forms to c.scott@utah.edu by Aug. 9, 2024. Reimbursement is paid out after the final date of stay;  reimbursement cannot be paid before the final date of stay.

The Salt Lake Plaza Hotel SureStay Collection by Best Western is offering a University of Utah rate of $105/night. This rate is subject to change depending on availability at the time of booking. K-12 USBE Credit and DLI Endorsement

Attendance at the Bridge Institute is required as a Concurrent Enrollment Course. Additionally, all high school Bridge Program instructors are required to complete their DLI Endorsement within 2 years of assignment to teach Bridge. 3 years attendance of the Bridge Program Institute meets state requirements for the DLI Endorsement.
